Match Reports
Meads VIII 3 – 2 Reigate VI
Its a short one this week boys because I caught covid and my memory went walkabout. It’s an honour to be in this team though and we did the double on Reigate! It was class on grass for the 8s, the passing and movement was great and we kept the belief and it paid off with a deserved win.
There’s far too many good moments in the game to mention but I’ll try to summarise and pick out a few moments. Great play down the wing between Edwin and Talha, both revving the engines and passing at the right moments, with Huss, Lane and Seb in the middle, the opposition couldn’t get the ball, it was like a precise game of pinball with Meads keeping the possession. With all the possession came the goals, with Kortney and Guiven finding the net in the first half.
Two nice goals, 2-0 Meads.
In the 2nd half, I think we were still riding that wave from 1st half and forgot to catch the next one and ended up making a bit of a dogs breakfast of it, giving away two cheap headers to Reigate, bringing the score to 2-2. We weren’t happy with that score and decided to go in for the hard but clean tackles… the best 3 go as follows, Lane comes in 3rd place, sending a player flipping over backwards from a shoulder barge. 2nd place goes to Alex for putting his whole body on the line taking out a Reigate player with him into touch. 1st place goes to Gulag Grealish for taking a Reigate players soul and sending them off the field in an ambulance with broken collarbone.
Anyway, we kept the faith, kept the belief and missed the goal a whole bunch of times just like normal. Ive got to give the boys credit, Huss’s and Guiven’s dribbling was excellent, you couldn’t get the ball off them in a telephone box, but some of their shots deserved the titanic song played on a recorder. It got until around the 90th minute until we realised we weren’t there to count the blades of grass or paint the lines and Kortney bagged a bit of meat to make it 3-2.
Supreme effort from all the boys. MoM goes to Edwin for keeping Reigate in his pocket and juicing up the attacks. Wig goes to the Huss for best sardine impression after his miss square on.
