Tackle Africa

  • 24th June 2019

On Saturday we entered a charity event which took the form of a football marathon. Now that might sound easy and good fun but our squad of seven players (normally 8) played 6-a-side for pretty much 12 hours non stop!

Unfortunately one of our team members pulled out on the day so we only had one sub which made it a little bit harder but our lads got through and in the end completed 20 matches of roughly 20/25mins. In true Meadonian spirit, they were still fighting for a 2-1 win in the final game despite it being a dead rubber.

We didn’t win it but our final record was P20 W11 L8 D1 and the players did our club proud.

The charity behind the tournament is Tackle Africa. They use the power and popularity of football to deliver sexual health education to young people on football pitches across the continent. They train African coaches to use fun, interactive football drills with inbuilt health messaging with young people in their clubs and communities.

It’s a great charity so if you can please donate anything to help us reach our fundraising target
